ABOUT THE CRAFT
At the center of Mayan weaving in Mexico, the artisans of Bécal are infamous for their impeccable craftsmanship and centuries-old techniques, which include the weaving of jipi and palma in humid, limestone caves. Their process is very labor intensive, involving many stages and hours — from foraging, processing, and drying, to weaving and hand-blocking — before a hat is ever ready to be worn.
