In the late 19th and early 20th century, European influences were strong and Art Deco styles flourished in the neighborhoods around central Mexico City. Lotería Deco is a game based on architectural and design details from this time that were recorded through a series of walks. Window grates, tile patterns, architectural embellishments and balcony railings, created by craftsmen and designers during this era of ornamentation, offer a rich catalogue for visual delight throughout the streets of Colonia Roma, Condesa, and the Centro Histórico.
Each player receives one or more boards. A caller randomly selects a card from the deck and describes it to the players. The players with a matching pictogram mark that space with a bean. The first player to completely fill his board with beans becomes the winner, and shouts: “¡Lotería!” (Lottery!).
This game was hand-printed on our Vandercook Universal I letterpress in Mexico City.
