Paloma Salsa Bowl
The Paloma Salsa Bowl is beautifully handcrafted in the community of Los Reyes Metzontla in the Mexican state of Puebla.
Pottery from Los Reyes Metzontla is recognized for its beauty, form and simplicity. The unique quality of this town's pottery is their luster, which is not achieved by using a varnish. It is obtained naturally by using a quartz stone to polish the piece, even when the clay is raw. This technique is known as burnishing and is one of the oldest techniques.
In addition to burnishing, Los Reyes artisans use natural beeswax to give the pieces an additional layer of protection. This wax, in addition to providing a beautiful color to the piece, adds a waterproof layer.
The piece is completely free of lead and safe for use with food, though sharp knives may scratch the surface.
*All items sold by Vía Raíz are handmade. Therefore they may have small "imperfections" or slight variations of color and design between each product—we think that is part of the beauty of having something made with care by individual artisans. Our website photos are a close representation of this piece, but may not be identical to the one you receive.
