MEET THE ARTIST

Mexican fashion designer, Andrea Velasco, collaborating with artisans in Chiapas

Born and based in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Andrea Velasco studied haute couture principles at Instituto Coscort in her home town. She later graduated from Fashion Design at Polimoda in Florence. She did internships with Agatha Ruiz de la Prada in Madrid and Atelier Caraco Canezou in Paris. Back in Mexico she moved to the southern region of Chiapas and got involved with several maya communities located in the highlands of Chiapas, firstly as a volunteer at the Centro de Textiles del Mundo Maya museum and later working at the NGO Impacto Textil.
Her experience collaborating with indigenous artisans and designers led Andrea to launch her own line that combines the world of indigenous cultures with her own.
